Opticians hit the padel courts at Club 108

CLEAR-sighted opticians took to the padel courts to raise awareness about the importance of using the right eyewear when playing sport.

In support of the current Specsavers London-wide sponsorship campaign of 15 grassroots padel clubs, colleagues from the Specsavers Kingsbury and Specsavers Hendon stores visited Club 108 to put their hand-to-eye coordination skills to the test.

The club is London’s first all-weather baseball, softball and padel facility, situated a three-minute walk from Brent Cross West station. Players have access to one of six indoor panoramic padel courts, which is where the Specsavers store colleagues headed on their team night out.

Birju Lakhani, retail director at Specsavers Kingsbury and Specsavers Hendon, says: ‘It was a great opportunity for the team to visit Club 108, explore the facilities, meet the events team, plus test their skills on the padel court.

‘As part of the London-wide padel campaign we also raised awareness of the difference contact lenses could make to playing padel, so we handed out voucher offers to visitors on the day.

‘There are many benefits of wearing contact lenses when playing padel, such as increased peripheral vision, which is great when anticipating where the padel ball might land.

‘Players can also move more comfortably on court and don’t need to worry about glasses slipping off and being damaged, all of which goes towards supporting an active lifestyle.

‘Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed the social aspect of the game and the club – we will be back.’

As part of the padel partnership, Specsavers is offering a free game of padel for up to four people to anyone who signs up to a new contact lens subscription at participating stores.*
