Opticians host children’s eye clinic at Kingsbury Mandir

IT WAS all eyes on the team from Specsavers Kingsbury when they visited the Shree Swaminarayan Mandir temple and held a clinic tailored specifically for children.

Led by optometrist Nikisha Varsani, the children learned about the different parts of the eye, how to look after their eyes, as well as being introduced to the 20:20:20 rule for reducing digital eye strain caused by prolonged screen use.

Nikisha says: ‘It was a delight to spend the morning with such enthusiastic children who were all keen to find out more about how their eyes work, including how the eye focuses, how they can see in the dark, plus understand why some children might need to wear glasses.’

During the course of the clinic, the children whose ages ranged between four and thirteen years old, were given goody bags including a Specsavers Optomonster booklet containing various cartoon characters, games and quizzes designed to encourage the youngsters to learn more about the eye.

The iconic Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury is a registered charity and an important hub for the local community. In addition to its religious services, the Mandir hosts educational programmes and wellbeing activities, with an ethos on promoting positive lifestyle values.

Sonal Patel, Charity and Community Lead for Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kingsbury, comments: ‘It was a pleasure to have the team from Specsavers Kingsbury visit the Mandir and speak to the children about eye care and eye health. We advocate the promotion of educational talks, particularly to the youngsters, as well as organising wellbeing activities to support our local community. I’m sure the children will have learned lots during their morning session with Specsavers.’

Specsavers Kingsbury offers customers two testing rooms which have the latest state-of-the-art pre-room testing diagnostic equipment. There is also a soundproof hearing room so customers can have their hearing checked, coupled with the latest micro-suction equipment to clear blocked ears.
