Waitrose Islington reopened this morning following a multi-million pound refurbishment. The refreshed store offers customers an enhanced shopping experience, with a modernised look and feel and the addition of new counters and innovative technology.

With the store celebrating its 17th anniversary earlier this year, the refurbishment brings new additions and upgrades dedicated to making it a ‘Home for Food Lovers’.

Highlights from the investment include:
Upgraded service counters: modernised meat and fish counters.
New dry-aged beef cabinet: a standout feature, the brand new dry-aged beef cabinet offers the best cuts of meat sourced from British farms with the highest standards of quality and animal welfare.
Sushi Daily counter: expertly crafted sushi using responsibly sourced fresh fish and high-quality ingredients.
New refrigeration for improved energy efficiency.
Electronic shelf labels which free up Partners from having to insert printed labels so they can prioritise customer service.
Shoppers can also enjoy exceptional fresh produce, artisan cheeses, and a curated selection of beer, wine, and spirits, as well as restaurant quality dinner selections from the Waitrose No. 1 range.
Branch Manager, Ritchard McVeigh, who leads the team of 79 Partners, said: “This refurbishment is all about delivering the outstanding quality and service Waitrose is famous for, right here in the heart of Islington. Our Partners have worked incredibly hard behind the scenes to bring this ‘Home for Food Lovers’ to life. We want to thank the community for their support and patience – we can’t wait to welcome you back through the doors.”

The shop reopened at 7am with the first shoppers through the doors greeted with a complimentary glass of prosecco or orange juice and a free tote bag as well as live music.

Nationwide Investment
Waitrose is committed to investing in its estate, including nationwide refurbishments and new openings. This forms part of a £1bn, multi-year programme designed to offer the very best products, service and shops for customers.

Waitrose remains on track to open four additional new stores this year – two full-line supermarkets in Hale Barns (Greater Manchester) and Cricklewood (North West London), and an additional two stores in Chelmer Village (Essex) and Ascot (Berkshire). It is also refurbishing 28 shops this year – including Waitrose Islington and Waitrose East Sheen reopening this week – and launching into airport travel retail for the first time at Heathrow Terminal 2.
