The founders of SW London-based Community Interest Company (CIC) Share and Care Homeshare, the UK’s largest and most experienced homeshare provider, have launched a new, community-led service designed to support local people across South West and Central London.
The new service, Helpful HomeSupport (delivered by Unity Living), has been created to sit alongside Share and Care Homeshare, to help householders who need an additional level of in-home support, or those who do not have a spare bedroom for a homesharer.
Helpful HomeSupport meets the growing local need for practical, trustworthy help at home. It is aimed at older people, people with disabilities, individuals recovering from illness or surgery, and anyone who would benefit from extra day-to-day support, companionship or reassurance.
Founders Caroline Cooke and Amanda Clarke are known for their community-led approach. They developed Helpful HomeSupport after seeing first-hand, through 20 years of running Share and Care Homeshare, how many people in their local community need flexible, accessible, everyday support to continue living well at home.
Helpful HomeSupport offers reliable, cost-effective, live‑out home support, tailored to each individual and their lifestyle. Support can include help with cleaning, shopping and meal preparation, accompanying people to appointments, walking the dog, or simply spending time together over a cup of tea. For those returning home from a short hospital stay, overnight support is also available to provide reassurance and peace of mind.
At the heart of the service is a commitment to continuity, trust and community connection. HomeSupporters are fully-vetted, and clients are introduced to one familiar person who gets to know their home, their routines and their preferences.
“We have spent the past 20 years working at the heart of our local community and across the UK through our CIC, Share and Care Homeshare, and we have seen just how powerful the right kind of home support can be,” said Caroline Cooke and Amanda Clarke, founders of Helpful HomeSupport.
“Unlike many traditional carers, our Helpful HomeSupporters are not confined to a quick visit; the emphasis is on building relationships, with someone they trust and who can give that little extra time and help. Helpful HomeSupport is about keeping people connected to their community, supporting independence, and making sure individuals can continue living safely and happily in their own homes. It’s practical, cost-effective, and rooted in the local areas we know so well.”
Helpful HomeSupport is designed to be flexible and person‑centred, responding to what people actually need, when they need it, while remaining affordable and community-focused.
