One of Britain’s most nostalgic pastimes is getting a fresh spin this summer as The Bowls Club returns to London on 10 June 2026 – transforming Finsbury Square, one of the City’s most beautiful green spaces, into a vibrant open-air lawn club.
Founded by Chris Scriven and Will Goy, The Bowls Club is on a mission to reignite the nation’s love for lawn bowls – reimagined for a new generation. Forget slow-paced stereotypes: this is bowls, but faster, social, and designed for groups, with games hosted by expert ‘Game Masters’ to keep things fun and accessible for everyone.
Set within a relaxed English garden-style space in the heart of the city, the venue offers a unique backdrop for unforgettable events. The Bowls Club has become a go-to destination for after-work gatherings, group celebrations, weekend socials, and corporate summer parties.
Guests can expect much more than just sport. Alongside the action on the green, there’s a full programme of entertainment including DJs, live music, roaming performers and even magicians, creating a laid-back festival atmosphere that runs from day into night.
Food will be provided by Social Pantry, with a menu designed for easy summer dining, alongside a drinks offering perfect for every occasion. The venue stays open until 10:30pm, making it as much about the party as the play.
Accessibility is central to the concept. The founders have partnered with Bowls England to ensure the experience stays true to the heritage of the game, while opening it up to a wider audience.
Now in its fourth year, the pop-up has already drawn over 100,000 players, proving that bowls might just be London’s most unexpected summer hit. The team have also raised over £46,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital, a charity close to the founders’ hearts.
Chris Scriven and Will Goy say:
“We’ve both seen how the game has faded over time. Lawn clubs used to be true community hubs, and we wanted to bring that spirit back to London, but with a modern twist that blends sport, hospitality and entertainment.
We were particularly struck by seeing young people in Australia playing the game so socially – it felt relaxed, vibrant, and genuinely fun. That experience made us want to bring that same energy back to the UK, and use it to help revive the game here for a new generation.”
The Bowls Club will run from 10 June to 30 July 2026 for a limited series of 20 dates. Walk-ins are welcome for drinks, while games should be booked in advance. Group bookings (10+) and private hire are also available.
